Nedski Top Tension

The construction of the Top Tension banjo is different from the standard 5-string banjo. The tension hoop, which has holes and nuts in it, allows the player to adjust the tension of the banjo head from the top instead of having to remove the resonator to do so. The resonator is not veneered, but is made of solid wood and is left flat inside with no arching. All of this not only results in the typical Top Tensio banjo sound that is sought after by some players, but also slightly increases the overall weight of the instrument.

We created the Nedski banjo in collaboration with the great American banjo player Ned Luberecki. The banjo has the same inlays as the President model, but has a slightly wider radiused fingerboard (12"), beautiful flame maple neck and resonator, and a mother-of-pearl bell cover. It has a rich inlay of natural mother of pearl on both the fingerboard and the headstock, which is framed with a white line. The instrument is made of flame maple wood, or walnut rootwood can be used at the customer's request.

Ned Luberecki was named the 2018 IBMA Banjo Player of the Year. He is a member of the Becky Buller Band. He has several programs on Sirius XM radio's bluegrass channel and teaches banjo.

He has been a member of the Chris Jones & Nightdrivers band for over 10 years, while performing as a guest on many recordings and tours (Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time, second banjo with Tony Trischka - Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular) for over 30 years. He often plays in duos with Becky Buller (All the Banjos Duo) or with Stephen Mougin (The Sam Bush Band) as Nedski & Mojo.
